The City of Kalona is purchasing a new street sweeper.

Public Works Director Matt Jacoby traveled to Texas at the expense of Mid-Iowa Solid Waste Equipment Company to inspect the intended street sweeper. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the equipment is in great working order so the city solidified the purchase. Schlabaugh says the sweeper costs about $123,000 and will be paid from the city’s local option sales tax. The new sweeper is replacing the city’s 1999 model, as part of its capital improvements plan. The equipment is expected to arrive in early April.
