A site plan and demolition contract were approved for the new Washington Fire Station site at Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting.

The major site plan was prepared by the city engineer and was recommended by the planning and zoning commission.

City Administrator Brent Hinson explained to the council that the demolition permit is not just for one structure, but for three houses and a garage. The council applied for permission from the Department of Natural Resources to have the material hauled to an approved site for a training burn for the fire department. If that permission is not granted, and the debris has to be taken to the landfill there will be an additional $14,000 cost.
