Air Care transported one person to the hospital after a wreck south of Wellman Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 2:11 p.m. two vehicles collided at Ginkgo Avenue and 190th, or G26. The two drivers were Carolann Ewalt of Wellman and Thomas Dean of Albia. Three people were hurt and two were taken to the University of Iowa Hospital, one by helicopter and a second by Washington County Ambulance. Neither vehicle rolled.

The vehicle driven by Dean was westbound on 190th and Ewalt’s car was southbound on Ginkgo Avenue. Dean failed to yield and crossed the intersection, hitting the driver’s side of Ewalt’s Chevrolet Aveo. Ewalt had a major head injury and was taken by Air Care for treatment. Dean was taken by ambulance for a laceration to his finger and a possible head injury.

Charges are pending on Dean for failure to yield.

Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, Wellman QRS, Wellman Rescue, Wellman Fire Department, and Washington County Ambulance assisted at the scene. Two flatbeds were called in to tow the vehicles away from the crash.
