Tuesday will see a battle of teams from the KCII listening area when Columbus travels to Lone Tree for a boy girl Superconference basketball doubleheader.

The Wildcat girls come out of winter break with a 1-8 overall record, dropping their final game of 2017, 50-38 to West Liberty. On the season the Wildcats are led by Anna Hamilton scoring seven points per game. Jenessa Carpenter has the team lead with 10 assists. Maki Mendenhall is best on the team and fifth in the Superconference with 66 rebounds.

Lone Tree comes out of the Christmas layoff with a matching 1-8 record. Highland beat the Lady Lions 44-25 in their final game before break. On the season the Lions are led by Riley Warson scoring 10 points per game. She also leads the team with 15 assists. Emily Feldman has pulled in a team best 53 rebounds. These two teams split a pair of meetings last season.

The Columbus boys enter Tuesday’s action in search of their first win of the season after closing 2017 with an 0-9 overall record including a 60-53 loss right before break to West Liberty. On the season the Wildcats are led by Tommy Pretz scoring 14 per game, eighth best in the Superconference. Pretz has the team and Superconference lead with 76 rebounds.  Chepo Cardenas has a team best 27 assists, seventh in the Superconference.

Lone Tree enters Tuesday’s game with an overall record of 3-4. They won their final game of 2017, edging rival Highland 56-55 in overtime. On the year the Lions are led by Brock Smith scoring 13 points per game, 10th in the Superconference. Smith also has the team lead and is fourth in the league with 66 rebounds. Keegan Edwards has a team best 22 assists. Lone Tree swept both games in this series a season ago. Action begins Tuesday night at 6p.m. at Lone Tree High School.
