As Mid-Prairie students head back to school this week, the Kalona Public Library wants to remind parents about their early-out program.

Twice a month during each Mid-Prairie early-out day, the library hosts elementary and middle school students for a Lego or movie day.

Library Director Anne Skaden shares how the program is an outlet for students, “It gives the children something to look forward to and it also gives them something to focus on. Because sometimes they’ll come and they just have nothing to do, and they’re not interested in trying to find a book and so they just sort of wander around. So this way it gives them something to focus on and something fun to do.”

Sign up is required ahead of time to attend the early-out programs. The first event is on January 10 with a showing of the film Frozen and a teen coloring club.
