The Winfield Community Development Group (WCDG) is on the last leg of its journey in raising funds for the Rick Rodgers Community Pool.

WCDG Treasurer Lisa Rees and Winfield Mayor Chris Finnell met with the Enhance Iowa Board CAT committee December 13 to give a presentation on the pool project and request a $250,000 CAT grant. Rees says the board seemed overall pleased with the project. WCDG had to raise at least 50% of the project funding in order to apply for the grant. Now WCDG is focusing on raising the remaining $463,829 in order to get the “last dollar in” CAT grant funds to reach the total cost of $1.5 million.

Rees comments on WCDG’s progress, “I think things are going really good. Right now it’s kind of we’re over that hump, getting in front of the CAT grant committee was a huge step. I mean we’re going after $250,000 and you know they’re willing to hear our project and to see where it goes from here so that’s a big step. So, I think now it’s just kind of we got the ball rolling and we just got to keep it going, and I feel really good and really confident about it.”

WCDG is planning fundraising events this spring and is working on acquiring other grants and corporate donations. They hope to complete their fundraising July of 2018, with construction beginning fall 2018.
