Saturday was busy for southeast Iowa athletes at the 2017 State Cross Country Meet at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls captured their first ever team state championship, beating second place Monticello by seven points. The Golden Hawk girls were led by individual state champion Marie Hostetler. The sophomore ran the fastest female time ever recorded in a 5K at the state meet.

The Mid-Prairie boys finished as team runners-up in class 2A with 93 points, falling to state champ George Little Rock Central Lyon by 14 points. Peyton Miller was the top Mid-Prairie finisher in seventh place.

In class 1A, Levi Geyer of Iowa Mennonite was a medalist, taking 15th place.

Winfield-Mt. Union’s Pearl Kreiger-Coble was 30th in the 1A girls race while Highland’s Taylor Sublette was 103rd in 1A action.

Washington’s Brennan Horak took 95th in the boys class 3A race Saturday.
