While Halloween and Thanksgiving have yet to be celebrated, plans are already underway for Main Street Washington’s annual SNOW holiday celebrations.

Main Street Washington Director Sarah Grunewaldt recently told the city council that new decor has been purchased with the assistance of a mini-grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for a lighted swag on the band stand and LED solar lights. Grunewaldt explained SNOW is also purchasing 30 cut evergreen trees to be memory trees, sponsored by community members to honor someone. These will be placed on fence posts and put in Central Park. They will each have a bow, lights, and a sign explaining who it is honoring. The council supported the project. The recommended donation for a memory tree purchased by an individual, family, or business is $100. The memory tree project was inspired by one done in Ottumwa.
