The City of Wellman will be purchasing an ATV for its public works department.

Mayor Ryan Miller says the council has discussed the matter for a couple of years, and was in the capital improvements plan for the 2017 fiscal year. The council plans to pay a maximum of $8,000 for the vehicle with funds from either the road use tax or collection sales tax fund. The ATV would be used by public works employees, primarily Parks and Recreation Director Teresa Lampe. It would be utilized for functions such as plowing snow, disposing garbage, and cleaning parks and sidewalks. Miller says the ATV would be insured by the city, and should be a negligible cost compared to insuring an automobile. The council also approved paying for half of a repair invoice of $1,821.93 for Lampe’s personal ATV that she had been using for the past year, with the understanding that if she continues to use her vehicle for work the city won’t be liable.
