The Demon cross country team hosts their one meet of the year tonight at the Washington Golf and Country Club.

Washington was last in action on Tuesday at Mount Pleasant where the girls placed third out of four teams and the boys placed fourth. Top finishes for the girls were Molly Sparks placed 12th, Brooke Stout in 15th, and Meredith Raber managed 28th. On the boys’ side, Brennan Horak placed sixth, Evan Horak seventh, and Jacob Van Osdol was 13th.

Area schools of Highland, Keota, and Sigourney will also be in attendance tonight.

Last week, the Sigourney girls’ team placed fifth out of five teams at BGM with Summer Barthelman leading the way in 14th. Keota did not receive a team score, but Laurie Amos led the way finishing 22nd. On the boys’ side Sigourney was second. Mason Moore led the Savages as he placed sixth. Keota’s Turner Klein is a runner to look out for as he is ranked 20th in Class 1A and he placed 13th at BGM.

Highland was in action on Saturday at Pekin. Scoring went by grade and Zoe Mahler headlined the 12th grade girls’ race finishing fourth overall. Nathan Butler placed 14th for the boys in the same age division to lead the Huskies.

The rest of the Southeast Conference teams will also be participating – Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, and Mount Pleasant.

The first race gets started at 4:30 p.m. today and continues into the evening at the Washington Golf and Country Club.
