For a game that lasted over four hours, there was never a dull moment from two teams that were trying to punch their ticket to a class 1A state championship. A back and forth thriller mixed with an hour and twenty minutes lightning delay, the Sigourney softball team fell to Clarksville 15-12 in a state contest that will go down as one for the ages.

As heard on KCII, there was no shortage of offense between the two teams as they rewrote various record books in Fort Dodge. The game started out in normal Sigourney fashion as they punched the Indians in the mouth early plating a pair of runs in the first inning off a RBI double by Brooke Waechter and then RBI single by Summer Barthelman. The Indians showed their offensive firepower by notching things up at 2-2 in the second as the game was delayed due to lightning. Eager to get back on the diamond after the long layoff, both offenses went right back to work as they each traded blows for much of the game. Down 12-11 and one out to work with, Sigourney found late game magic as Leah Carter reached on an error to plate Barthelman to force extras. As the clock struck midnight, so did the Savages hopes at a state title when Janet Borchardt hit a three run bomb to left field in the ninth to seal the wild 15-12 win. Borchardt was one of eight Indians to record multiple hits in the contest. Autum Barthelman tied a state game record in hits going 5-for-5 with a walk to lead the Savages.

With the win Clarksville improves to 29-2 on the year and will meet Kee High in the state championship today. Sigourney fell to 23-11 but have a chance to end their season with a win as they face off with Westwood (30-11) today in the consolation game. First pitch is at 1:30 p.m. from Fort Dodge and KCII will be on the call starting at 1 p.m. for the pregame show.
