Two people are at the University of Iowa hospital with unknown injuries after a Friday night accident involving a car and a train in Columbus Junction. The Columbus Junction Police Department says 51-year-old Tang Naw and 35-year-old Lai Kingbual, both of Columbus Junction, were transported to the hospital, though the severity of their injuries are not yet known. The collision was reported Friday at 6:44 p.m. on Second Street. Naw’s 2014 Chevrolet Camaro was stopped at a railroad crossing when it was struck by Kingbual’s 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and pushed onto the tracks.

Initial reports indicate Naw exited the car once it was struck from behind, but was attempting to get back in when the eastbound Canadian Pacific train struck her car. Naw and her vehicle ended up in the ditch on the east side of the road. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and charges are pending. The Columbus Junction Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Louisa County Sheriff’s Department, Canadian Pacific Railway Police, Louisa County Ambulance, and Columbus Junction Fire and Rescue.
