The Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ basketball teams opened Southeast Conference play on the road Friday night. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons made their annual trip to Fairfield High School for the first of two meetings versus the Trojans. Washington left Jefferson County with a pair of lopsided losses.

Washington’s girls’ basketball team (1-4) was held to their lowest offensive output of the season in a 60-17 setback to No. 13 Fairfield (5-2). Washington was led in scoring by Morgan Brinning and Addison Six who each tallied four points. The Trojans forced the Demons into 31 turnovers. The loss is Washington’s fourth in a row, dropping their record to 1-4.

The boys game featured 10 leads changes and three ties before a late run pushed Fairfield over the top. Washington led 36-35 midway through the third quarter. The Trojans closed the game on a 29-10 run for a 64-46 victory. Jack Redlinger came off the bench to lead Washington in scoring with 11 points. The loss drops Washington to 0-2 overall.

The Demon basketball teams resume their season Monday in Sigourney, battling the Savages in a non-conference doubleheader.
