The Washington County Riverboat Foundation has given several grants over the years to the Highland School District, and that support continued when Highland was awarded $50,000 at the fall grant presentation. Superintendent Chris Armstrong said the money will allow the middle school to purchase mobile MacBook carts that will provide approximately 27 computers to each grade level. This increase in computers will give the school a 1:1 ratio for students using the labs. The total cost for the project is $72,500, and the school will cover the remaining $22,500.

Armstrong expressed his gratitude to the WCRF for their support of the district, saying, “They have given us over $1,000,000 since they’ve been in existence. It has made such a huge difference for our students. We’re able to do things technology-wise that we would not be able to do without their support, and it definitely has benefitted our students’ learning program. We’re just so appreciative of the work they do, and their willingness to be generous with their funds to the community.” Armstrong believes the new computers will give the students and teachers the ability to utilize 21st century learning opportunities, including projects and lesson plans they wouldn’t be able to do without them.
