A man is dead due to an unknown medical issue while in police custody in Jefferson County. According to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, just before 2 a.m. Saturday, an Iowa state patrolman brought 18-year-old Timothy Daniel Fluharty Jr. into the Jefferson County Jail for possession of marijuana, second offense. Fluharty went through the booking process with no incident. Upon being placed in a cell, he began exhibiting what appeared to be a medical issue, and jail staff immediately addressed the problem. Fluharty was transported by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center, where he later passed away from the medical issue. The incident is under investigation with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
