With the construction scheduled to begin on the new Kalona Community Center, the city has decided to give the old building a good send-off. On Saturday, November 12th, the community center is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the open house will be an opportunity for people to tour the facility one last time. They’ve had a lot of interest from individuals who either taught or went to school in the building, so they’re giving them an opportunity to take pictures.

They will also have a historical presentation people can look through, which will outline the building’s origins and history. There is no cost for the open house, and light refreshments will be provided. After the event, they will lock down the community center, though there will be limited access to the gym. They will then get the building ready for the contractor to take over during the first part of 2017.
