A Kalona man is in jail facing several charges including the theft of a livestock trailer and four cows in Johnson County. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is working with the Johnson County Sheriff regarding 19-year-old Michael Escher’s theft of a 16-foot livestock trailer from Frytown and four cows from Oxford. The cows and trailer were recovered in Washington County. Escher is now in custody with a $15,300 bond for several charges from both agencies, including violation of probation, two counts of third degree burglary, two counts of fifth degree criminal mischief, fourth degree theft, and fifth degree theft. The charges are for crimes committed between July 15th and July 27th, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. No plea has been entered yet, and it’s unknown if the case will go to trial.
