The Mid-Prairie class of 1966 had their 50-year class reunion this year, and decided they wanted to do something big for their alma mater. They began fundraising for an endowment fund for academic excellence, which will be used to award grants for school projects. They set out with a goal of raising $66,000 for the fund, and they’ve already raised nearly $60,000. The class hopes they’re just the beginning, and other classes will follow suit and raise money for the fund.
Mid-Prairie board member Gabrielle Frederick said the state doesn’t give the school a lot of money to do some activities and projects, so having these grants will be a great opportunity for the teachers. Representatives from the class of 1966 came to the most recent school board meeting and presented their plans for the endowment fund. It will be operated by a board of directors, and teachers or administrators will submit applications for grants from the fund.
