Main Street Washington was awarded at the recent Main Street Iowa 30th year celebration in Des Moines. Washington received the Innovation Award for population 2,501 to 10,000, which was presented by Governor Terry Branstad and Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The Innovation Award was for the adaptive and creative reuse of The Bryson Block and The Village. Also, Don and Marge Kline were honored for their leadership since 2008.
Main Street Washington has had nearly 18,000 volunteer hours logged since 2008 and approximately $4.5 million in private money invested in acquisition and $3.4 million private money invested in projects. Also, there’s been a net gain of 40 new jobs during that time period.
