Fire departments across Washington County were busy Monday evening responding to multiple calls from West Chester to Riverside in less than two hours. At 5:20 p.m., Washington, Keota, and Wellman fire departments, along with Washington County Sheriff’s officials responded to a fire at a residence at 1675 230th Street, south of West Chester.

At 6:12 p.m., Riverside Fire Department, Alliant Energy and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel responded to the intersection of Highway 22 and Schnoebelen Street in Riverside where a truck pulled down a power line. A truck pulling an auger had torn down the line which was across the road way. The driver of the vehicle was Joel Schillerstrom of Lone Tree. State and county roads personnel were made aware of the situation.

At 7:13 p.m., Kalona Fire Department was dispatched to a reported bridge post on fire at Highway 1 and 133rd Street. Upon arrival, they found it was a culvert, not a bridge post. The fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported at any of the incidents.
