The winter heating moratorium ends this Friday. The Iowa Utilities Board is reminding energy assistance customers to contact their local utility companies to avoid disconnections. Each year Iowa residents are protected by the winter heating moratorium. The program for those certified for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, will not have electric or natural gas service disconnected November 1st through April 1st. Households with past due utility bill debt are encouraged to work closely with local utilities and for Washington County residents HACAP, or Hawkeye Area Community Action Program.
