Plans are continuing to move forward as committees prepare for RAGBRAI to come to Washington July 29th. The Washington City Council considered $5,000 of seed money for the event at this week’s meeting. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained, there won’t be cash flow until June really and this will help the committee get going. The council approved the $5,000 for the event with the understanding that they’ll be paid back.

Hinson did state he’s recommending rain insurance for the event. He said most communities make money but there are three variables – how does the beer garden do, the cost of entertainment, and how well the community does on collecting in kind contributions.

Councilman Russ Zieglowsky spoke of the theme and logo that was unveiled on St. Patrick’s Day, saying he’s been asked by constituents about it who aren’t in favor of it. The theme “Gettin’ Piggy with It” was one of 130 entries submitted which was then selected by the Washington RAGBRAI committee. The logo was designed by The Graphic Edge.
