Ainsworth and Kalona residents will take part in special elections today. Kalona will vote on whether or not $3.9 million in bonds will be issued for an addition to the community center. The project adds about 18,000 square feet of space to the current center including a walking and running track, basketball court and several community rooms. Sue Meeks, elections administrator for Washington County says she expects a large turnout, ten residents have voted early. For the bond to pass, 60% of voters must say yes on the ballot. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. today at the Kalona Community Center.

The Ainsworth election will fill a vacant seat on the city council. Three people are running for the seat, including Douglas D. Donald, Dawn H. Stewart and Michael Eugene Sypherd, Sr. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at the Ainsworth Fire Station. Listen to KCII for live results from the Washington County Courthouse tonight.
