The top two teams in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference will battle tonight in Des Moines County for a spot in this weekend’s sub district championship game. The Lone Tree Lions (18-5 overall), the co-champions of the SEISC North division, will meet the SEISC South division champions, the Danville Bears (22-1 overall), in the Class 1A District 8 championship game.

Lone Tree’s road to the district title game featured competitive battles versus the Iowa Mennonite School (50-43) in the quarterfinal round, and the New London Tigers (70-61) in the semifinals. Junior Jovonte Squires has elevated his scoring in the postseason, averaging 28 points two games. Squires entered the playoffs averaging 15.2 points per game.

Danville’s trek to the championship game included wins against the WACO Warriors (63-47) in the quarterfinals and the Notre Dame Nikes (72-57) in the semifinal round. Senior Mason Lorbor is averaging a team-best 19 points per game this postseason.

Tonight’s district championship is a rematch of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout game played February 12 at Southeast Community College in Burlington. The Bears cruised to a 78-50 victory over the Lions.
