The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams travel to Pekin on Friday night for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader with the Pekin Panthers.

The IMS girls enter tonight’s contest with an overall record of 0-15 this season. Last time IMS was on the floor the lost at Louisa-Muscatine on Tuesday 45-15. Suzanna Yoder led the team with nine points. On the season Yoder is the leading scorer for IMS at eight points per game. Yoder is also the team leader with 85 rebounds this year and paces IMS with 36 assists.

Pekin enters tonight’s game undefeated on the season with a 17-0 record. The Panthers are currently ranked No. 3 in the state in class 2A in the latest ratings from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game the Panthers blasted Mediapolis 67-45. Sloan Rieghard led the way with 27 points. On the season Beth Atwood paces the Panthers at 20 points per game, second best in the Superconference in scoring and ninth best in the state in class 2A. Atwood also leads the Panthers in rebounding, collecting 155 so far this season, third best in the conference. Gwynne Wright leads Pekin with 80 assists, the second best total in conference play to this point.

These two teams met on December 18th with Pekin taking a 64-29 win at Hillcrest Union in Kalona.

On the boys side Iowa Mennonite enters play with a 9-7 overall record. IMS lost to Louisa-Muscatine on Tuesday in Letts 60-53. Eli Gingerich had 14 points in the loss to lead IMS. On the season Iowa Mennonite is led by Gingerich at 17 points per game, best in the SEISC. Gingerich is also the team leader and second best in the conference with his 101 assists. Drake Brezina leads Iowa Mennonite with 73 rebounds on the year.

Pekin enters tonight an 11-5 overall record. The Panthers came up short Tuesday against Mediapolis 60-59. Pekin was led in the game by Keaton Winn’s 17 points. Winn leads the Panthers on the season at 15 points per game, fifth best in the Superconference. Winn is the leading rebounder for the Panthers, leads the conference, and is second in the state in class 2A this year, pulling down 171. Winn also leads the Panthers with 36 assists on the campaign.

The Panthers beat Iowa Mennonite at Hillcrest Union 56-45 on December 18th.
