The accolades continued for the No. 7 Washington Demon wrestling team (28-0 overall) Saturday in Le Grand. Washington took the mat versus five teams at the East Marshall Duals, and the Demons defeated each one by 23 or more points.

A highlight from the weekend came in Washington’s dual versus East Marshall, where Demon junior Kyle Anderson (132) achieved his 100th career varsity victory with an 11-4 decision victory over Lansin Lacina. Anderson is ranked as the Perdicament’s  No. 8 wrestler in the Class 2A 132 pound weight class. Washington recorded additional six wins by fall, and three others by forfeit for a 57-18 win.

The Demons faced off against a ranked wrestling team from Southeast Iowa, battling the No. 10 Sigourney of Class A. Washington lost a total of four matches to the Savages, winning six of their 10 matches by fall in a 54-18 triumph.

On Saturday the Demons won five matches by pin, three by forfeit, one by major decision and another by decision in a 51-23 victory over South Tama. Washington won four weight classes by forfeit, two by pin, one by major decision, one by decision, and one by an ultimate tiebreaker for a 46-23 win over Union. They finished up with 11 wins by pin and another by decision, cruising by Benton Community, 69-7.

Twelve Washington wrestlers recorded at least one win by fall. Junior Austin Hazelett (138) won four of his five bouts Saturday by pin, while junior Trey Van Weelden (152), and freshman David Hora (120) each won three of their matches by fall.

The regular season dual schedule concludes Thursday for the Demons, traveling to Williamsburg for a quadrangular versus the Raiders (13-3 overall), the Oskaloosa Indians (3-17 overall), and the Keokuk Chiefs (15-9 overall). First matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Williamsburg High School.
