The Kalona City Council gave Jan Peterseim and her committee permission to continue into the design phase of a planned Veterans and Volunteers Memorial. The proposed project will be built near the southeast corner of the community center and city hall. Peterseim tells KCII News, the committee would like to replace an old memorial which was taken down years ago. The project could be split into two separate memorials, one for area veterans and one for volunteers such as firefighters. Should that happen the veterans’ memorial would be built near the city office entrance and the volunteer memorial would be placed at the fire station.
