As Washington County continues to lead in solar energy production, wind energy is also on the rise. Iowa ranks third in the nation in wind energy. Front runner for the Democratic party’s nomination for president, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, praised Iowa for it’s commitment to green energy. In Keota Clinton says Iowa is a model for the nation when it comes to wind energy. She praised the bipartisan way Iowans have come together to fight climate change, with more than a third of all energy used in Iowa coming from wind energy.

According to the Iowa Wind Energy Association, the state currently has 3,198 utility scale wind turbines in operation. The state ranks third in the nation in wind energy production and has also created nearly 7,000 jobs in Iowa.
