It has been another successful start to the season for the Lone Tree Lions boys’ basketball team (7-1 overall). Last season’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North champions of the hardwood have won seven of their first eight games this year, scoring 67 or more points in each victory. Lone Tree’s recent December success has been evident, posting a 29-3 record during the month since 2011.

Junior Jovonte Squires is the only returning starter off of last season’s 19-5 campaign, and is the conference leader in two statistical categories. He’s poured in a league-best 17.3 points per game, and his 68 assists tops the conference. Junior Niko Gosnell has chipped in 13.9 points per game, the fifth most in the SEISC North.

The Lions’ only loss this month came at the hands of the Highland Huskies on December 15. Lone Tree scored a season-worst 38 points, falling 59-38 to their conference rival. The game was tied at 36-36 with six minutes remaining before Highland closed the contest on a 23-2 run.

Lone Tree returns to the floor Tuesday, January 5, traveling to Hillcrest Union for a SEISC North bout against the Iowa Mennonite School (6-1 overall).
