Nine inches of snow fell over two days in early February this year. Are you ready for snow to arrive for the season? Photo by Sally Y. Hart

Snow is in the forecast for this evening with up to 3.5 inches accumulating before it’s done tomorrow. Property owners in the City of Washington are reminded they are responsible for keeping their sidewalks clear of snow and ice. City code states public sidewalks shall be clear of all snow and ice accumulation within 24 hours after the snow has ceased or ice has formed. Failure to clear sidewalks may result in the City doing so and having the cost of removal levied against the property.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to be cautious and aware of the weather conditions. Maintain a reasonable speed for the conditions and keep a safe distance when following other vehicles. Also, be aware that bridges and ramps often freeze before other sections of the road. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
