A recognizable foe awaits in the postseason opener for the Lone Tree Lions (6-3 overall; 5-2 Class A District 6) tonight. The Lions’ first round matchup with the Lisbon Lions (7-2 overall; 5-1 Class A District 5) will be the eighth meeting all-time between the schools, and the last seven haven’t been kind to Lone Tree.

These two teams met in last year’s playoff opener and Lisbon cruised to a 40-0 victory. The programs were district opponents from 2010-2013, and Lisbon won the four meetings by a combined total of 124-43.

Lone Tree senior Jared Hudson, last week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, finished the regular season as the district’s rushing king, topping the league in rushing yards with 1,448 and 23 touchdowns.

Lisbon shares a majority of their rushing attempts between a pair of running backs. Jack Butteris and Willie Benyshek each carried the ball 80 times during the regular season. Butteris gained 696 yards and eight touchdowns and Benyshek collected 496 yards and four touchdowns.

The first round of the playoffs is set to begin tonight with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Lisbon High School.
