Politicians in Washington, D.C. are considering a budget deal this week, a deal needed to keep the government from closing down. Republican Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News Tuesday afternoon and said he wants to keep the government open to save the money that it takes to close and reopen government. He explains the Senate will vote on it this week and with the length of the document Representatives and Senators are under the wire to read it all and process it.

Grassley says the deal has some entitlement reform and it does not raise taxes. It does cut some spending, including crop insurance from the farm bill. When speaking with KCII News, Grassley said he’s reluctant to support the measure.

In October of 2013 the federal government had a period of two weeks where the government shutdown.
