Postseason play begins tonight for the Washington Demon (7-23 overall) volleyball team in Tiffin. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) has paired the Demons against the Clear Creek-Amana Clippers (23-16 overall) in the first round of the Class 4A Region 8 tournament.

The teams met one time in the regular season, squaring off  in the Grinnell Volleyball Tournament on Aug. 28. Clear Creek-Amana won the match in straight sets (21-11, 21-11). Washington junior Jesse Buchholz recorded a team-high two kills and an ace in the setback. Senior Emma Stout dug up four balls and was six for six serving.

Clear Creek-Amana enters postseason play on a three match losing streak, including dropping a pair of matches in a season ending triangular last Tuesday in Marion. The Clippers have a trio of seniors who have recorded over 700 kills during the regular season. Alyssa Weldon leads the squad with 262 kills, followed by Ashley Prusha with 222 and Corrine Schwarting smashed 218. Weldon also leads the Clippers with 385 assists, followed by sophomore Riley Hennes with 302.

The winner of the match will advance in the Region 8 tournament to face the Marion Indians (29-8 overall) Thursday in Marion. First serve of tonight’s first round match between Washington and Clear Creek-Amana is set for 7 p.m. at Clear Creek -Amana High School.
