Several KCII area boys cross country teams participated at the class 1A state qualifying meet at Seminole Valley on Thursday.

The boys team race was won by Iowa City Regina, the Regals finished with 83 points. Top area finish came from Winfield-Mt. Union in seventh with their score of 196 points. The Wolves were led by Gavin Bencze who qualified for state as an individual, taking fourth place with a time of 16:45. Johnathon Quinn of WMU also qualified for state individually, placing in the top 15 at eighth place with a time of 17:07. Other runners for the Wolves included Drake Mehaffy 26th, Kohlton Heinzel 67th, Ross Vantiger 103rd, Nick Davis 107th, and Kane Harris 134th.

Highland finished ninth as a team with their score of 244 points. The Huskies were led by Kieffer Sexton who qualified for state as an individual, taking third place overall with his time of 16:34. Other finishers for the Huskies included Caleb Brase 20th, Josh Brand 68th, Jared Gringer 73rd, Nie Rath 99th, James McPherson 102nd, and Nathan Butler 144th.

The Sigourney Savages placed 12th as a team in the state qualifier with their score of 285 points. Top finisher for the Savages was Tyler Crawford 21st with a time of 17:58. Other finishers for Sigourney included Will Flangin 44th, Luke House 65th, Tristan Bell 85th, Tommy Stout 91st, and Aaron Michel 101st.

The Keota Eagles participated in the state qualifier but did not have enough boys runners to post a team score. Keota was led in the meet by Turner Klein who placed 30th individually with his time of 18:09. Other finishers for the Eagles included Logan Sieren 40th, Jason Ree 109th, and Dylan Burgdorf 118th.

The Lone Tree Lions participated in the state qualifier but did not have enough boys runners to post a team score. Lone Tree was led in the meet by Jeff Hudson in 47th place with his time of 18:35. The Lions second runner was Jake Viner in 127th.

Iowa Mennonite School participated in the state qualifier but did not have enough boys runners to post a team score. IMS was led in the meet by Levi Geyer in 50th with a time of 18:39. Other finishers for IMS included Jacob Boller 106th and Micah Miller 150th.

The WACO Warriors also participated in the state qualifier but did not have enough boys runners to post a team score. The Warriors were led in the meet by John Skriver in 92nd place with his time of 20:25. Other WACO finishers included Joe Edeker 136th, Roman Kiefer 143rd, and Trevor Patagos 149th.

Kieffer Sexton, Gavin Bencze and Johnathon Quinn will all represent southeast Iowa when they run at the state cross country meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday.
