Today is Labor Day and in observance many businesses and offices are closed. In 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday of September each year a legal holiday to honor workers across the country.

The Washington County mini bus is not operating today. In honor of the holiday all post offices, city halls, the Washington Free Public Library, area banks and local schools are closed.

Also, the Washington County Courthouse will be closed, including the auditor’s office. Early voting will resume tomorrow morning from 8 to 11 a.m. and polls will be open noon to 8 p.m.
