Sigourney-Keota head football coach Jared Jensen hopes to build his defense this season around a strong linebacking corps.

Jensen says his team lost a lot from last year’s defensive line and looks to rebuild at the position. Another area hit hard by graduation was in the defensive secondary. However, with four of his top five tacklers returning from last season, the Cobra coach says there is a base to build the defense from.

Jensen says he feels the key to improvement on the defensive side of the ball is to stop the run and to create turnovers. In addition to most of his top tacklers returning from last year, also back is the Cobras’ interception leader, Avery Moore. However, the junior will be moving to an outside linebacker position this season. Even with the holes to fill on his defense, Jensen is excited about the upcoming season, after coming off what he called a great summer camp.

Sigourney-Keota is coming off a 5-5 season a year ago. The Cobras will open the season at home against the BG-M Bears on August 28th.
