The postseason opener for the Columbus Wildcat softball team (8-7 overall) will take place in Iowa City. The Wildcats avoided a first round game in the Class 2A Region 6 bracket, and are scheduled to begin the tournament against the Iowa City Regina Regals in the regional quarterfinals (11-10) on July 8.

The Wildcats are two wins away from surpassing their win total from last season. Columbus’s upset win of the season came on June 1, defeating the No. 1 Highland Huskies 5-2 in Columbus Junction.

After starting the season with four straight victories, the Regals have lost 10 of their last 17 games. Regina recently won back-to-back games to bring their overall record one game above .500.

Joining Columbus and Iowa City Regina in the Region 6 bracket is: Danville (3-10), Colfax-Mingo (4-17), No. 2 Eddyville-Blakesburg (22-4), Lisbon (6-14), Pekin (5-11), No. 10 Wapello (16-4), West Branch (7-9), and West Marshall (8-9).

First round games for Class 2A Region 6 tournament are scheduled for July 6.
