Over the last 10 years, Iowa has an average of 5.3 traffic fatalities during the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Nearly half of the more than 21,132 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed on roads across the United States in 2013 were not wearing seatbelts according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Recent crash data shows more motorists are buckling up at night according to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. Due to the number of violators and fatal crashes during this time period, the Click It or Ticket campaign across Iowa and the country will be focusing on seat belt enforecement, especially during the over night hours.
