On a cool, rainy day several KCII area athletes qualified for the state track meet at the regional track meets in Wayland and Tipton yesterday. For Class 2A the top two finishers at each regional meet make it to state, and eight other ahtletes quailfy across Iowa in 2A after that. For Class 1A the top finisher automatically qualifies with 12 other athletes qualifying.
In the Class 2A regional qualifying meet, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are automatically spending seven events to state. Anna Hostetler took first place in the 1500 meter run at 4:56.95 and second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:41.72. Lexi Duwa achieved second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.5 to earn a trip to Des Monies. In the 800 meter dash, Abby Tornow took silver to earn a trip to state with a time of 2:34.27.
Several relay teams received automatic bids to Des Monies. The 4×100 relay team claimed first with a time of 51.08 with Duwa, Emily Cayton, Ali Butters and Alex Rath. The 4×200 relay team took second with a time of 1:48.76 athletes include, Duwa, Cayton, Butters and Rath. The 4×800 team also took second place to earn a trip to Des Monies, participants include, Tornow, Hannah Van Roekel, Greta Schmidt and Maddi Zahradnek.
Columbus qualified two events for state last night. Shania Boyd took second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet and 7 inches. The Wildcats’ 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay team took second place with runners include, Boyd, Kelsey Pretz, Monaye Mathews and Laura Mincks.
In Class 1A WACO; is taking one event to state team, who had the 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:11.73. Participants include Jalyssa Jepson, Kiana Miller, Kasey Sutton and Jennie Greene.
Highland had two events make it to state. Kelsey Hora took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.11. In the 4×400 the Huskies won first place with athletes Hora, Sam Dutton, Chelsey Lampe and Murphy Beinhart.
Winfield- Mt.Union is also taking two events to Des Monies. Karlie Wade took first place in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet and 1.5 inches. In the discus Lou-Krieger Coen threw the discus 116 feet for a first place finish.
Lone Tree had one event make it to Des Monies. In the 800 sprint medley the Lions secured first place with a time of 1:57.24 seconds. Athletes include, Madison Forbes, Natie Attig, Elena Sieverding and Page Doehrmann.
State Meet will be next Thursday and Friday in Des Moines.
