Several KCII area boys’ track teams will be competing in Wayland for WACO’s home track meet today; including Washington, Mid-Prairie, Highland, Lone Tree and Winfield-Mt.Union.

WACO Warrior senior Bryce Achen comes into the meet hoping to show the home crowd his ability in the 100 meter dash. Achen has the ninth fastest time in the state at 11.03 seconds and competed at the Drake Relays in the 100 last week, taking 27th place.

Washington has two athletes coming into this meet off of Drake performances. Senior Tommy Peterson comes in with the sixth best throw in the state in the shot put with a throw of 55 feet and 7.25 inches. Peterson achieved that throw in front of his home crowd earlier in the month. The Demons’ other Drake competitor senior Jacob Hennigan comes in tied for the 12th best time in the state in the 110 meter hurdles. He placed 15th at Drake with a time of 15.44 seconds.

Mid-Prairie’s sophomore Levi Duwa will look to keep momentum going after a strong performance at the Drake Relays in the shotput. Duwa finished in eighth place overall with a throw of 52 feet and 6 inches. Duwa’s best throw of the year was at the Hawk Co-Ed Relays last week with a throw of 52 feet and 9 inches. Duwa also has the 20th best throw in the state in the discus with a throw of 157 feet and 7 inches.

Highland’s junior Keifer Sexton has the third fastest time in Class 1A in the 1600 meter run. He ran the four laps in 4:40.43 seconds earlier this month at Mediapolis.

Lone Tree’s sophomore Jovonte Squiers has the sixth longest long jump recorded in Class 1A so far this year. He jumped 20 feet and 10.25 inches at Mt.Pleasant.

Winfield-Mt.Union has two runners in the top three in the 3200 meter run in Class 1A. Sophomore Gavin Bencze comes in with the second best time at 10:14.64 and junior John Quinn with third fastest time at 10:19.14.
