The offensive struggles continued at home for the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (1-6 overall; 1-3 Southeast) Monday afternoon. The Demons hosted the Mount Pleasant Panthers (4-2 overall; 2-1 Southeast) in a Southeast Conference battle, and the Panthers came away with a 3-0 victory.

The Panthers divided their scoring between three players Monday. Hattie Liechty, Lauren Ralls, and Shyla Hiler all connected on goals in the victory. Ralls leads Mount Pleasant with five goals scored this season.

The home pitch hasn’t been kind to Washington’s girls’ soccer team this spring. Last night’s loss is the third shutout suffered by the Demons at home, all coming against Southeast Conference opponents. Senior goal keeper Stephanie Evans collected seven saves in the setback.

Head coach Kyle Collins said while he saw improvement, his team needs to continue to be more aggressive on the offensive end, “The ball was on the offensive end several times with multiple touches and it gets cleared.” Collins said, “It should be one touch, and then you take a shot. That’s what we’ll continue to work on.”

The Washington girls’ soccer team’s next game is on Thursday, stepping out of conference to host the Mediapolis Bullettes (1-3 overall) at 4 p.m.
