Through the first half of the conference season, the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team is still searching for their first league victory. The Demons had another opportunity at conference win number one Monday afternoon against the Mount Pleasant Panthers at East Lake Park. The Panthers bested the Demons 4-2.

Washington fell behind with the score 3-0 at halftime, with senior Jacob Baughman as goal keeper the first half. The Demons battled back, finding the net twice to make the score 3-2. Washington had offensive production from junior Giovanni Coronel, who scored the Demons’ first goal off of a corner kick from senior Joe Smith. It was the second assist of the season for Smith, leading Washington in the category.

Freshman Andres Gutierrez added the Demon’s final goal of the night. Gutierrez is one of four Demons who have scored two goals this season, including Smith, junior Christian Mejia, and freshman Tony Torres.

Freshman goalie Thomas Zimmer took over in the second half and allowed the final goal of the match.

The setback extends Washington’s losing streak to four games. They return to varsity competition on Thursday evening, hosting the Mediapolis Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
