Solar energy will soon help power WACO Elementary. Superintendent Dr. Darrell Smith says they expect to flip the switch on the 250 kilowatt solar array at the elementary school in Crawfordsville by the end of the month. A smaller 50 kW system is currently being used at the secondary building, and there are plans to install a 350 to 400 kW system in the summer. Smith says they could cut their energy bills by up to 90%. This year, they’re anticipating roughly $60,000 in savings.
