Sigourney-Keota kicked off practice last Monday as they are getting ready for the wrestling season. Head wrestling coach J.J. Cooper feels pretty confident about the team that is coming in for this season, “We’re looking to have a pretty tough squad this year we got some state qualifiers returning. We got some freshman coming up that can make some noise for us.”

Last years state qualifiers for the Sigourney-Keota wrestling team were Nathan Fritz who wrestled at 138 pounds last year, Lane Boender at 145, and Bryce Brown at heavy weight.

Cooper says that there is a lot of competition for spots at 152 and 160 and believes competition will bring the best of his team, “It’s going to have to be earned, which is going to create a lot of competition in the room and that’s going to help towards giving us success.” Sigourney-Keota will start the wrestling season at BGM on December 2nd at 6 p.m. where they will wrestle BGM, Pekin and Lynnville Sully.
