The third time didn’t happen to be the charm for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk’s volleyball team. The Golden Hawks participated in the Class 3A Region 8 semifinal match against the West Liberty Comets Thursday evening in West Liberty.

The contest marked the third meeting between the schools in 2014, with West Liberty winning both matches in straight sets. In the third meeting, the outcome was little changed as the Comets ended the Golden Hawks season in a straight set win (25-21, 25-17, 25-13).

Head coach Cindy Miller says despite the loss, she was very happy how her seniors finished up their volleyball careers. “Ashley Sojka was digging up those balls in the back row, what a great job.” Miller said, “Taylor (Kurtz) had a tough night. Because of the tough serving our setting wasn’t that accurate so she probably didn’t have as many kills as she normally would have.”

Senior Ashley Miller says she did everything she could to extend her playing career.

“Coming out tonight we really felt like we had a chance to win.” Miller said, “We proved it in the first game we showed that we could. I didn’t want it to end so I went all out.”

The loss ends Mid-Prairies 2014 season at 14-17, an eight win turn around for the 2013 season.
