The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves football team (5-3 overall; 4-2 in district) is facing another challenging opponent prior to postseason play. The Wolves will travel to Pekin for a matchup with the Panthers (8-0 overall; 6-0 in district).

Winfield-Mount Union was held off the scoreboard last week in the team’s 32-0 defeat to Van Buren. Despite the loss, Winfield-Mount Union has surpassed their win total from a season ago, and will participate in the postseason for the first time in several years as they have already qualified for playoffs.

The Wolves are led on offense by junior Kolt Rossister, who needs 152 passing yards to reach 1,000 for the season. Rossister has 1095 yards of total offense and 17 total touchdowns this season.

Pekin comes in as the district’s top team and is looking to finish with an undefeated regular season. The Panthers are led on offense by sophomore quarterback Trevor Northup. Northup is completing 61 percent of his passes for 1266 yards. His touchdown to interception ratio this season is 14:1. The Panther defense has been stellar as well. Pekin is allowing an average eight points per game and trails Van Buren in the district with 22 forced turnovers.
