The struggles continued Friday night for the Highland Huskies football team.

the 3-4 Highland Huskies took to the field against the 3-4 Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. The Huskies suffered a major loss early in the football game as sophomore Jake Wood suffered a broken collarbone in the first half. Head football coach Tony Johnson says Wood’s backup, sophomore Chase Rath, did a nice job in his place.

“You kind of get thrown into the fire.” Johnson said, “He didn’t take any snaps during the week and did a great job filling in.”

Rath completed 10 passes for 174 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the game. The touchdown proved to be the only score Highland would get in the game as they lost 42-7 to the Rockets. The loss is the third straight for Highland, who now drops to 3-5 overall and 2-4. The Huskies end their 2014 season this Friday in a district matchup with Central Lee.
