The best runners from the Southeast Conference will compete against each other this afternoon. The 2014 Southeast Conference meet will be held at Mount Pleasant High School and the schools competing include Washington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, and Mount Pleasant.

The top ten individual runners will get medals, but only the top seven will be crowned all-conference runners. Washington cross country coach Steve Roth believes Fort Madison’s girls team and Mount Pleasant’s boys team will run away with the conference’s team titles. After that though, he feels the rest of the team places are up for grabs.

“I really think if we can get our best times we can jump into that second or third spot in both the boys and girls.” Roth said.

Individually, Roth believes junior Emme Keith will be one of the top seven finishers across the line in the girls race tonight.

“She was an all-conference girl last year and we are expecting her to be back.” Roth said, ” We expect that from Emme.”

Roth believes Mariah Howard, and Brooke Stout have the chance to be all-conference runners with a good race tonight. On the boy’s side, Roth feels sophomore Owen Horak and senior Curtis Vest have the best chance to represent Washington as all-conference runners, but he does say that will be a challenge.

“They got to leave it on the line.” Roth said, “Mount Pleasant has five outstanding runners, so that leaves two positions to get.”

The meet will be at 4:30 p.m at Mount Pleasant High School.
