The Southeast Iowa Super Conference championship and consolation round isn’t the only tournament going on in the region tomorrow. In Wellman, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will welcome five area schools for their annual Hawks Tourney, including KCII area schools Washington and Sigourney.

For the Savages, this is the first year competing in the tournament and they will be matched up in pool play against Iowa City Regina and West Liberty. Sigourney head coach Chris Carter looking forward to competing in the tournament.

“I am just excited for us to get to play some different teams, play some different schools.” Carter said, “Tournaments are always a good day to work on some new things. You are there all day so you need to work on playing consistent for an entire day and not having those highs and lows like we have been having sometimes.”

The other pool includes host Mid-Prairie, along with Washington and Benton. Washington head coach Juliana Berg says having the tournament close to home will be beneficial for her team.

“Their friends and family can come out and watch them and it’s convenient for them.” Berg said, “Having those people there really gets them fired up even more and makes them really want to play well.”

This will be the first time Washington and Mid-Prairie will meet since the Golden Hawks swept the Demons in straight sets in Washington last Thursday. The Hawks Tourney will take place Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. at Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman. KCII Sports will bring you results from the tournament.
