During their run to the Class 3A state championship last fall, the Washington Demons ended the season of several area schools.Coming one step short of the title game in 2013 was the Solon Spartans, who fell 14-9 to the Demons last year at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. The two teams will reunite tomorrow evening in Solon as the Spartans will host Washington in the final non-district contest for both schools. Spartan Head Football Coach Kevin Miller says this game will be much different than the one played last year in the UNI Dome.

“This being a non-district game certainly changes the complexion of the game.” Miller said, “Implications are certainly a lot different than they were in the semifinals. These are completely different teams and the dynamics are very different.”

Miller adds his team is not in a revengeful mindset, but rather worrying about their personal growth as a football team. The Spartans will be led on offense by junior quarterback Brandon Childs, who has 551 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns. Junior Spencer Lawson leads the Spartan defense with 18.5 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and three solo sacks. Washington will head to Solon for their final non-district game of the season. Coverage begins with the Washington Hy-vee Pregame Show at a special time of 6:45 p.m. on 106.1 FM KCII, and online KCIIradio.com.
